All-New Mazda MX-5 Wins Both 2016 World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year
The fourth generation Mazda MX-5 has officially been crowned the 2016 World Car of the year. Mazda’s trophy collection for this year didn’t stop there. The iconic MX-5 brought home the ‘Best Convertible title at the 2016 What Car? Awards and also the ‘2016 World Car Design of the Year award.
President and CEO Masahiro Moro of Mazda North American Operations, and Managing Executive Officer, Mazda Motor Corporation collected the award on behalf of Mazda and every Mazda; employee, retail partner and customer:
“What a wonderful honour, to have the Mazda MX-5 named both World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year. As our iconic MX-5 roadster approaches one-million units of production, this award is proof that it is as young, vibrant, fun and relevant as ever, and proof that every Mazda looks as incredible as it drives, and drives as incredibly as it looks."
The Mazda MX-5 received tough competition from the Audi A4 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC however was victorious amongst the judging panel of 73 journalists from 23 different countries.
The 2016 MX-5 was designed under Mazda’s KODO-Soul of Motion. Mazda aims to bring their new range to life with this design philosophy. Mazda want their customers to enjoy their brand and continue to purchase their vehicles. It is the first Japanese car to win the World car design of the year.
